Sadly, I’m unable to post a new comic today… but! In lieu of that, I have some fun behind-the-scenes tidbits from the latest storyline to share with you guys.

Color tests for the Minus World. My goal was to do as much of this area with grays, oranges, and purples as possible (though some green wound up sneaking in there, too).

The secret base of the Power Council was just kind of a darkened room in past appearances, but I gave it a more distinct look so you’d notice when I was cutting to/away from it. (By the way, did you notice the glove that Metafoblin’s strange advisor is wearing?)

I had to design a lot of new bugs to pad out Number’s army. Pictured here are beetle-type, hornet-type, mite-type, and centipede-type bugs. You may spot a few tardigrades in crowd scenes, too.

There’s a lot of sketches I can’t show, because they involve some THINGS that haven’t quite shown up yet. But they will be showing up next week! And they will be pretty cool. Just hang tight ’til then!

As we continue diving deeper into the storied lore of the Badnixverse™, I thought it might be helpful to have a quick recap of the story thus far –

KING METAFOBLIN
Used to run things, but has been in hiding since Rog blew the lid off of his maiden-kidnapping scandal. Has been plotting in secret with other powerful enemies to crush Rog and the Badnix once and for all.

THE CHAOS STARS
7 powerful items that were hidden away by a fearful King Metafoblin (with the help of Rog’s grandfather) many years ago. Rog, who was worried about King Metafoblin taking a swing at him, decided to hunt these things down as insurance.

5 of the Stars were recently gathered together in one place – 3 from Rog’s collection, one that was picked up by Hud, and a final one contributed by some Bugs who were impersonating some type of creepy gnome. That’s what kicked off the current storyline!

There’s still a 6th star in King Metafoblin’s hands, and another that Perry and Arika picked up for kicks.

HUD THE CAT
Kevin’s sidekick, who has been guiding him to smash enemies for ages now, has finally come out and admitted that he’s a lot more than he seems. He tried to stop Rog from collecting the Chaos Stars by killing him and his entire crew – it didn’t work!

NUMBER
Hud’s “brother”, a glitched-out supernatural entity who has power over “fate”. That’s his power inside the Chaos Stars! And bringing them together again allowed Number to re-materialize and start up with his shenanigans again. Namely, trying to destroy the universe. Yikes.

Okay, you know how I said the comments system was working again? Apparently what I meant by that was “still extra-broken, in entirely new and exciting ways”. They should be fixed now, though! I hope! Please leave a comment or two if you get the chance so I’ll know I can rest easy.

(Yes, there is probably some cosmic irony in the fact that, in the middle of a storyline about glitches, the Badnix website is repeatedly breaking down. It has been noted!)
