MEGA FILLER

BAD NEWS: no new comic today. Sorry, I hate doing this, but I’ve been way too busy with moving / day job shenanigans / other stuff as of late and the only way I’ve been able to get comics done has been to pull massive all-nighters. Which is nice because, hey, more comics, but it’s starting to negatively impact the quality of work. (Also probably my health.) I’ll try to re-rail things by Wednesday, Friday at the latest, but in any case I’ll keep you posted.

GOOD NEWS: close analysis of key demographics reveals that my entire readership is probably too engrossed in the new Pokemon game to notice whether an update was posted!

FUN NEWS: as a consolation prize, enjoy a rendering of ROG and ARIKA’s NON-CANON POKEMON MEGA EVOLUTIONFORMS:

Enemy Atlas #2: Sky World

Welcome back to the ENEMY ATLAS, a survey of LEVELS for the prospective STAGE ENEMY. This week, WORLD 2 – SKY WORLD!

skyworld-1

AT A GLANCE….

Though SKY WORLD is something of a low-tier World of the FOBLIN EMPIRE, it’s a region with more than its share of fans. The enormous, whirling blades of these fans generate gusts of wind that can easily push a hapless intruder off of this World’s scaffolding, sending them tumbling into the fluffy clouds below. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves.

Before Sky World was annexed by the Empire, it was ruled by the ONI, a race of horned imps that held court in the clouds. They mostly just left their World’s surface alone, and early Foblin settlers found the land beneath the clouds a rich, unspoiled paradise. Centuries of wholesale exploitation later, Sky World is a booming industrial center, hosting the third largest civilian population in the Empire. Its surface also rates just below Poison World on the Imperial TOXICITY RANKINGS, which is a matter of some local pride.

Enemies and residents have joined the Oni above the cloudscape, making homes for themselves atop towering metallic highrises, slick steel catwalks, and fan-propelled platforms with giant LED counters that count down when you step on them and then explode. Needless to say, it is very easy to lose your footing and fall to a horrible death – but if it’s not quite enough, this world’s top-shelf LASER CANNONS, flying mechanized DEATH DRONES, and LITTLE FLOATING SPIKE BALLS will help finish the job. That’s the spirit, SKY WORLD!

A GENEALOGICAL ASIDE

For reasons yet unknown, new variants of enemies have been emerging from Sky World over the past 3 centuries. These races – incl. PARA-FOBLINS, PARA-TOMATONS, and PARA-FLYING MECHANIZED DEATH DRONES – are characterized by being exactly the same as an existing type of Enemy, but with a pair of wings attached. Theories include a RECESSIVE GENE inherited from early intermingling with some long-extinct Sky World race; or, more likely, the wings could be a result of a population living for generations above a RADIATION-SOAKED TOXIC DEATH TRAP.

Reminder: new comics return on Monday! Sorry to keep you waiting. Here, have a Rog.gif for your trouble.

Also, an Internet high-five goes out to KragarSF for tracking down the secret Alloy appearances in the archives! KragarSF, expect a large digitized hand to fly through your window and high five you at some point in the future. Possibly while you are asleep.

To Be Continued!

Item 1: regular comics are going to be on hold for about a week or so! Unfortunate but unavoidable.

Item 2: when we come back, we’re going to segue directly into a new story – it’ll directly continue the current adventure, but trust me, you are gonna know the difference.

Item 3: brace yourself – if you can’t tell from today’s cliffhanger, things are about to get REALLY WEIRD. Not sure what the reaction will be but it’s going to be a lot of fun to draw.

Item 4: a wilted shroom

Item 5: thanks for putting up with these scheduling hiccups and the weird hours the comic tends to go up at! I’m doing what I can to keep the Badnix-spice flowing, but at the end of the day I’d rather miss a week of comics here and there than lower my standards for making ’em. Hang in there!
