It HAS been a few months since I saw a three-armed spider-girl. (I wonder if Howard got blasted onto that ship…)
Going backwards, Big Fan (http://www.badnix.com/comic/big-fan/) and Swarm (http://www.badnix.com/comic/swarm/) still have Number issues. But I can’t remember far back enough to think of what Arika is saying though. Between a game-reference to a boy who shattered time and a nod to QC’s “ASDF”, the notion that a 2D sprite can recognize a Z-axis is pretty impressive.
Okay I only understood like 40% of this comment, but I think you might be digging a little too deep for the Z-diffuser reference. Mostly it’s just a “GREAT CAESAR’S GHOST” kind of thing! (With the bonus of being a callback to an old throwaway line.)
Uh, Number doesn’t flip in the two strips I mentioned. (Much like how Sagat’s eyepatch flips in the original Street Fighter if you jump over him. Or how the Power Glove jumps from Howard’s right arm to left arm from one strip to the next.)
I don’t remember the last time “Z-diffuser” was mentioned (but then again, there’s over 500~! strips of puns and references now). It sounds like a special attack from League of Legends. Or was used like a Enemy swear similar to how computer AIs in Questionable Content have their own 4-letter swear words.
